EXAM ANSWERS FOR COURSE 2128

EXAM QUESTIONS- STEFAN MARCAROS (20064107)

Question 1) the components that make up an interesting blog are varied. For starters an interesting blog contains lots of visual and audio stimuli to engage the viewer, people react in a more positively inclined manner if there are things other than text in the blog that actually grab their attention. For example on my course blog I put a music clip and a video slide on so that way I could break up the vast amounts of text that was on it. Another component of an interesting blog is to have lots of colour and a unique background display. The information on the blog should also be interesting and relevant if educational. Hyperlinks are also part of a unique blog. People are curious and love to click on things that lead to another page or an exciting link, which makes hyperlinking an excellent way to make your blog more interesting. To make an interesting blog it also has to reflect what sort of person you are, If your outgoing and loud and are happy then that will most definitely be reflected in your blog. So the more interesting you are the more interesting your blog is. Mind maps and tables are also good as well as they convey messages and ideas in an easy understandable format, while providing the reader with some visual stimuli.

Example 1- Picture

Example 2- Hyperlink

Example 3- Mind Map

Question 2)

Question 3) online learning can be a useful cognitive tool on the road to educating students. It gives students control over what they learn, how they learn and where they learn it from. It also gives the students the skills they need to be able to access information, filter down to the relevant information and then analyse and report on what is left. Students can also work at their own pace which means they don’t feel rushed or pressured to get a vast amount of information in a limited time. Students can, also work together in an online learning situation because they all discuss how to access information, how to edit etc. This is because they all have different skills that they can offer each other. It also gives students the opportunity to teach each other what they have learnt so that way their knowledge is shared amongst each other. This is because of SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIVISM. Students are all helping each other learn. Online learning is also fun and educational so students are combining something they love (ICT) with a task or goal that they have to complete, which makes online learning a very valuable education tool!!!

Question 4) the whole point of our blog was to place information about many theorists on our blog to inform the viewer of what they did and what their theories were. All the information in these blogs are educationally based only and do contain some opinions.

A bit of Piaget Blog

The theory of Piaget was that People develop in different stages and that they move forwards into new levels of thinking. The stages are: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete and finally the abstract.

The way in which my blog represents Piaget’s theory is through the actual blog entries themselves. You can see that from beginning to end my blog style and way of thinking is different as I was moving through Piaget’s final two stages. I go just from reciting theorists theories to actually analysing if their theories are true or false and whether they have any actual meaning in today’s modern society. In other words Piaget’s theory is rife throughout my blog.

Let’s Go Vygotsky

Vygotsky’s theory was that social interaction plays a fundamental role in the development of students recognising and understanding (cognitive Recognition). A second aspect of Vygotsky's theory is the idea that the potential for development depends upon the "zone of proximal development" (ZPD): a level of development attained when children engage in social behavior. Full development of this development depends upon the person’s social interaction. The range of skill that can be developed with adult guidance or peer collaboration can far surpass anything practiced alone.

This is evident in my blog with the way I posted information on other people’s blogs and they posted information on mine. We shared our knowledge with each other so we all benefited from this social interaction point of view. My blog has many posts from other people.

Getting Glaser

Glaser’s theory was that of people having six basic needs and having those needs fulfilled. The needs are:
Love
Survival
Power
Freedom
Fun
Belonging
My whole blog is set out according to my needs. What I want to put on there. What I want to leave out. Where I want everything to fit in, and if I don’t like it I change it because it doesn’t fit in with or suit MY needs.

Bloom’s Taxing Taxonomy

Benjamin Bloom created this taxonomy for putting abstract questions that we ask students to answer in categories of relevance. The taxonomy provides a useful structure in which to categorize test questions, since teachers will characteristically ask questions within particular levels, and if you can determine the levels of questions that will appear on your exams, you will be able to study using appropriate strategies. The taxonomy gives you a pyramid type structure of how students will answer the questions. I. E creatively etc.

Again my whole blog is rife with this theorist’s theory every blog entry is answered on a different part of his taxonomy. I even took a multiple intelligence test which showed me my different response levels.

Digital Immigrants VS Digital Natives- PrEnsKy

DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS

#Have Been Educated the Old Fashioned way. IE. Books, Library etc.

#Have no need or see no need for the use of technology in or around education.

#do not believe education should be fun because that's how it was in "THEIR DAY"

#they think differently from the digital natives.

#did not grow up with technology and have no need for instant access, downloading, random web surfing, e-mail etc.

#Have a hard time learning how to use technology. Less adaptable.

DIGITAL NATIVES

* Grew up with technology from as far back as they can remember

* Use net speak, abbreviations etc. eg.
-"www.hungry.com" - Kindergarten student @ Lunch break
-"Every time I go to school I have to power down" - High School student on Digital Immigrant Teachers.
-brb lol lmao k kewliiz @- Examples of net speak.

*Cannot Learn @ a slow step-by-step pace, must be constantly receiving information in interesting creative ways i.e. pictures, movies etc.

*Use the net as their first point of reference rather than a secondary resource.

*Brains are wired differently from those of their predecessors.

*Cannot go backwards in their learning using just books and reading.

*Short Attention spans.

Mark Prensky’s article on Digital natives VS Digital immigrants has been a very interesting read he argues that in today’s modern society Digital Immigrants (people who have not grown up with technology-most teachers at the moment) need to realise that most of the teaching methods they grew up with are no longer a valuable teaching method to use on modern age students (Digital Natives) because they access information fast, they need that quick fix and they rely on technology more than books. They live in a world where the less time something takes and the more information it provides the better it is. Digital Natives have developed a whole new culture that needs to be adapted to if immigrants want to try and teach the natives. Teachers must become more computer savvy and must integrate their teaching methods with the way students learn today-Technology. I agree with Mark Prensky because if Digital immigrants don’t adapt students will switch off and then they will not learn anything; technology is our future and in it lies the future Bill Gates’s of the world>>>>>> “The DIGITAL NATIVES”

VERY ANNOYED Bloom's Taxing Taxonomy

I am very annoyed because half my blogs from February have been deleted............. So the next couple of entries are kind of backdating!!!!!!

BLOOMS TAXonomy

Benjamin Bloom created this taxonomy for putting abstract questions that we ask students to answer in categories of relevance. The taxonomy provides a useful structure in which to categorize test questions, since teachers will characteristically ask questions within particular levels, and if you can determine the levels of questions that will appear on your exams, you will be able to study using appropriate strategies.

In 1956 Bloom headed a group of educational psychologists who developed a classification of levels of intellectual behavior important in learning. Bloom found that over 95 % of the test questions students encounter require them to think only at the lowest possible level...the recall of information.
Bloom identified six levels within the cognitive domain, from the simple recall or recognition of facts, as the lowest level, through increasingly more complex and abstract mental levels, to the highest order which is classified as evaluation.

Education FUN????

Educational games are a great way of getting students to learn the content you would like to teach them in a fun, exciting way that gets them involved and ready to learn more. This is the site for some really good educational games.

QUEENs of BOHEMIA

Ok here goes I don't Know if this will work. Fingers crossed so lets hope this works yeah.Using music can be a way of grabbing people's attention to your site and can make a website more interesting. It also allows somebody to customise/personalise their blog or website. I personally prefer myspace even though mine has been hacked into at the moment LOL but anyway. Here's to QUEEN.
Cheers

WIKI VS BLOG

Wikis' and Blogs are both very useful. A blog allows a person to write about whatever they want, whenever they want without being riddiculed because it is their own, personal opinion. Yet that can also be a problem seeing as though only one person can edit a blog and so... if the information is outdated then noone can correct it. A Wiki depends on lots of people's collaborative efforts to make it work. It can be consatntly changed and updated.
