Digital Immigrants VS Digital Natives- PrEnsKy
DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS
#Have Been Educated the Old Fashioned way. IE. Books, Library etc.
#Have no need or see no need for the use of technology in or around education.
#do not believe education should be fun because that's how it was in "THEIR DAY"
#they think differently from the digital natives.
#did not grow up with technology and have no need for instant access, downloading, random web surfing, e-mail etc.
#Have a hard time learning how to use technology. Less adaptable.

* Grew up with technology from as far back as they can remember
* Use net speak, abbreviations etc. eg.
-"www.hungry.com" - Kindergarten student @ Lunch break
-"Every time I go to school I have to power down" - High School student on Digital Immigrant Teachers.

*Cannot Learn @ a slow step-by-step pace, must be constantly receiving information in interesting creative ways i.e. pictures, movies etc.
*Use the net as their first point of reference rather than a secondary resource.
*Brains are wired differently from those of their predecessors.
*Cannot go backwards in their learning using just books and reading.
*Short Attention spans.
Mark Prensky’s article on Digital natives VS Digital immigrants has been a very interesting read he argues that in today’s modern society Digital Immigrants (people who have not grown up with technology-most teachers at the moment) need to realise that most of the teaching methods they grew up with are no longer a valuable teaching method to use on modern age students (Digital Natives) because they access information fast, they need that quick fix and they rely on technology more than books. They live in a world where the less time something takes and the more information it provides the better it is. Digital Natives have developed a whole new culture that needs to be adapted to if immigrants want to try and teach the natives. Teachers must become more computer savvy and must integrate their teaching methods with the way students learn today-Technology. VERY ANNOYED Bloom's Taxing Taxonomy

Benjamin Bloom created this taxonomy for putting abstract questions that we ask students to answer in categories of relevance. The taxonomy provides a useful structure in which to categorize test questions, since teachers will characteristically ask questions within particular levels, and if you can determine the levels of questions that will appear on your exams, you
will be able to study using appropriate strategies.
In 1956 Bloom headed a group of educational psychologists who developed a classification of levels of intellectual behavior important in learning. Bloom found that over 95 % of the test questions students encounter require them to think only at the lowest possible level...the recall of information.
Bloom identified six levels within the cognitive domain, from the simple recall or recognition of facts, as the lowest level, through increasingly more complex and abstract mental levels, to the highest order which is classified as evaluation.

WIKI VS BLOG
Wikis' and Blogs are both very useful. A blog allows a person to write about whatever they want, whenever they want without being riddiculed because it is their own, personal opinion. Yet that can also be a problem seeing as though only one person can edit a blog and so... if the information is outdated then noone can correct it. A Wiki depends on lots of people's collaborative efforts to make it work. It can be consatntly changed and updated.

There are many differences between podcasts and Radios, the most basic of uses for the podcast is to download information that you can continue to listen to or use over and over again. On a podcast you can also pause, rewind and fast foward. It is like a computer version of a CD Player. You download the podcast off the internet onto your computer then you plug in your ipod or your MP3 and you download it onto the ipod or MP3. Radio is a constant player of information and entertainment that cannot be downloaded or edited, just listened to.

This is a contents page from one part of an enormous wiki page. This is needed for all wiki's. Wiki's are an important part of the technology era as they can be updated, chopped and changed or even be deleted by anyone. There is no sole page owner of a wiki, this makes a wiki better than a blog and email because the community maintains it and it is easier to post information rather than email etc etc.

The DREADED BOARD OF STUDIES
The whole point of today’s activity was to check out and report on in 1000 words, the most helpful site used by teachers to make their lessons interesting and effective for students so that not only do they learn something but also so teachers know they are teaching the students the right information. This website is feared and loathed by students. The “Dreaded BOARD OF STUDIES”
The programming of the information on the website can be at times helpful with how it categorizes everything and labels it all so the information is relevant to the heading, neat and in order according to subject, level or just parents seeking general information about the course outlines available for their son/s or daughter/s. The home page design is bright and colourful but also very informative and reflects the categorized style mentioned above it has pictures and hyperlinks which take you to the desired section. However the actual style and layout of this site can be a headache and a half and I am not joking the PDF files on Adobe Acrobat can go on for pages and pages ( 6 at least, sometimes more)
And can be more stressful than actually sitting the HSC, I know because I sat it 2 years ago!!! Every second word is also a hyperlink which may have some relevant information but it just regurgitates those few points in a different form each time!!! As mentioned above every second word is a hyperlink, this can be come very irritating and can make any soft, calm person very irate very quickly. Overall all the website contains everything a teacher, parent, student needs to be helpful or successful in the HSC period and so even with all the negatives and headaches that can possibly arise from this website it is worth looking up to guide the students of today into tomorrow.
Just looking through everything the site has to offer in my fields which are THEATRE MAJOR/ ENGLISH MINOR, there is a lot of information to process. It gives you the outcomes for each topic that the teacher must teach to the student so it can be learned/completed and processed and understood by the student in order for them to gain necessary life skills. It contains an Assessment Resource Centre for years 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 in those subdivided groups and with this function teachers gain the information they need to use assessment to enhance learning in years 7 right through to 12. It builds on the principles of assessment for learning in the Board syllabuses and the advice in subsequent support materials on implementing these principles. It shows how teachers can use assessment to enhance student learning and to make a judgment of student achievement at key points in the learning process. It also provides teachers with previous student’s work as an example of what sort of assessment standard would fit this description for student outcomes. For years 9-12 it also provides information on the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate respectively.
There, as I have probably mentioned many times before, is so much information on this website that I am barely able to make heads or tails of it. There is so much information swimming in my head that if I was a mere scientific calculator I probably would have burned out circuits and my Ink based screen would have cracked and have steam coming out of it. There cannot possibly be one person in the whole of the world that could sit on their computer for one whole day and manage to process and understand every bit of information on this site. It is a site that I personally believe needs to be constantly referred to throughout either your teaching or schooling years. > I’m getting a Migraine as we speak< it is however, all valuable information that can be used over and over again. It’s objectives as a website, as I understand it, is to inform teacher’s of the action they must take to help students to learn valuable and much needed skills later on in life. Networking
Part of this project was to post blogs on other people blog space as such!!
To do this we had to invite and be invited oin turn to join and contribute to someone's blog. This was an activity that was done in class, and in class for a reason. To overcome difficulties easily!
Personally I was absent for the actual tutorial that this was done and as a result the task itself was harder even with the guidance of these wonderful people!! Many of s were new to this blogging and the ability to do something new such as intive authors to our blogs was a lot easier with the authors present to help troubleshoot!
For example people were present at the time to give their emails and confirm their invitation almost instantly. Where as if we had been doing it seperatly at home, we wouldn't haev had this quick acception and would not have known if we had actually done it right!!!
When undertaking the intivaton process, my invitation from a classmate (cough Stefan cough hehe) was continously not coming through. If we had been seperate at home, this may have caused an issue! We would either not have noticed or we would have had to converse through other means to correct it! It turns out it was simply an error in the email address given but even something like that if we were not both present may have been a larger issue to figure out!!!
Working at it simitaniously meant we could all create these fabulous blogs!!!!!

ICT and Learning Styles
ICT can be of great benefit to students with different learning styles. "We all learn differently, says John Davitt, but only now with the help of new technology can we begin to work at which style suits us best" ICT gives students the opportunity to work at their own pace within the comfort zone of their own learning environment.

- Education becomes high challenge but a low threat environment with command bars that lower stress levels I.E delete, edit, undo etc.
- Makes learning fun.

- Students can take control of their own learning aswell and they become more confident, responsible and self-reliant when it comes to gathering and processing data.
- Teacher does not have to be constantly disciplining students as they are moostly on task.
However it is not all positive as argued by Derek Wise because if ICT is not incorporated into a new education structure and is just placed in the current system then there could be problems with its effectiveness. "Too often, it has been assumed that ICT will transform learning," "It won't if it is being incorporated into a traditional teaching structure, but its effects are maximised if it goes hand-in-hand with changes in teaching and learning." I believe Ict is important for the future if used in a constructive and educational manner.

Hi guys just thought you should read this...
What would it have been like if this was done at 8pm last night???
Well this could have been an interesting phone conversation, alot of swearing and some laughing about how stupid we are because we can't do it. Then the questions would have come flying 'how did you do that?' 'what does your screen look like?' 'how come mine doesn't look like that?' 'what's wrong with my #$!* *^#$@!* computer?'. This could have been a disaster last night, but because we were all sitting here helping each other we were talking it through. Guys this is SOCIAL INTERATCTION at its best. We are now a community, an online community who would have thought... Communicating in person and with a screen infront of the both of you is so much easier than over the phone, where little, stupid mistakes are easily missed.

ok well we all know how hopeless melissa is with technology..if i had to do this by myself last night it would have been alot harder and i most likely would have given up!!! its pretty cool though. it would have taken forever then i would have rung jess to ask her how to do it!its a good idea to do because people can tell me if im wrong about what ever it is im babling about then i could fix it up. social constructivism using technology who would have thunk it!!!!!knowing how well i use technology i probably would have deleted not only my blog but everyone else's...if that is impossible im sure i would be able to do it!!!why did we use this whole networking bizzo??? well we're using our "higher-order thinking" we are using our ability to construct a on-line community of learners..were helping each other, if someone dosent understand we can make it clearer!!! simple really :) complex ideas become clearer when a peer explains it to us.:)

Ok today was kind of a tricky one seeing as my university comerades and i had to try and network into each others blogs so we could post stuff for each other on everyones sites. If i had done this task at home alone i would have been lost an hour ago. lost my wallet, phone and keys etc in the process. Gosh I've been mugged!!! I most probably would have blown up my computer screen. >insert smiley face< This activity does however teach you how to communicate and work in a group situation, a skill that modern day society requires, no demands. It is actually quite interesting to observe and participate in this group situation as you discover you have insights and ideas that you would not have had by yourself. This leads me to the idea of social constructivism. The sense of community we build,"Higher Order thinking" occurs and we develop communal awareness.

Windows Movie Maker is a video editing software that is included in recent versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It contains features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, time line narration, and Auto Movie.
